Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Happy Helix Pillow Review

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Happy Helix Pillow Review

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Happy Helix Pillow Review

Construction Happy Helix Pillow Review

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Happy Helix Pillow Review

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models seem right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Happy Helix Pillow Review

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Happy Helix Pillow Review

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
