Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. German Helix Base
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. German Helix Base

Construction German Helix Base
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). German Helix Base
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. German Helix Base
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. German Helix Base
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
