Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Eight Sleep Vs Helix

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Eight Sleep Vs Helix

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Eight Sleep Vs Helix

Construction Eight Sleep Vs Helix

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Eight Sleep Vs Helix

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models seem right, you can always check out the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Eight Sleep Vs Helix

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Eight Sleep Vs Helix

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
