Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Dinky Helix
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Dinky Helix

Construction Dinky Helix
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Dinky Helix
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these models feel quite right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Dinky Helix
Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
