Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Dayhelix
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Dayhelix

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Dayhelix
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options seem quite right, you could always check out the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Dayhelix
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Dayhelix
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
