Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony Stateroom

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony Stateroom

Construction Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony Stateroom

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony Stateroom

Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound right, you can always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony Stateroom

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony Stateroom

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
