Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Cana Helix

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Cana Helix

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Cana Helix

Construction Cana Helix

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Cana Helix

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options seem quite right, you may always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Cana Helix

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Cana Helix

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
