Construction Can You Make A Soft Mattress Firmer
The Puffy is essentially a memory foam mattress that measures a total of 10 inches. It features a straight forward design with just 2 foam layers: one of thick memory foam and also another of high-density poly foam.

Here are the details listed on their website:
10″ MATTRESS | 2 LAYERS
6.5 – 8.5 Medium-Firm Comfort
4″ Cooling Cloud Foam: Puffy’s gel-infused foam increases airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses. Provides pressure relief and cooling system.
6″ Firm Core Support Foam: Outstanding support and spinal alignment for restorative sleep.
Cover – The cover fabric was pretty thin, which provides airflow throughout the mattress. It’s made out of polyester, which makes for a soft and elastic feel.
Comfort Layer – Comprised of 4″ of gel memory foam, the comfort layer here is soft and has a slow response to pressure, which usually means you are very likely to sink in deep for some intense body contouring. While it’s normal for all-foam beds such as this to incorporate a top section of memory foam, this layer particularly is very thick and should bring some satisfying relief to the hips and shoulders. And though memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating in the nighttime , Puffy has managed to mitigate this using a gel infusion meant to keep things cool and nice as you sleep.
Support Layer – Made up of 6″ of high-density poly foam, unlike the memory foam layer above it, this part has a fast response to pressure and is quite firm. The combination of materials has been especially chosen to deliver targeted relief to the spine. Can You Make A Soft Mattress Firmer
We discovered Puffy’s thick memory foam coating with a gentle, pressure-relieving feel. An absence of any sort of transition foam means that you’re very likely to interact primarily with the high-density poly foam as you quickly sink through the memory foam comfort layer. Because of this, you are likely to feel as though you are sleeping more “in” this mattress than “on top” of it. Although, if you would like an even softer texture, you might want to check out the Puffy Lux, which has an extra layer of memory foam for an ultra-plush vibe.
One other important factor to consider when buying a new mattress is where pressure points will form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these tension spots could be, I placed a pressure map over the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I could really feel myself sinking into the mattress, together with the memory foam in the top layer working to contour to my own body and fill in the space at my lumbar region. While this resulted in a great pressure relief in this position, it did make it hard to move around and shift positions.
Side – Rolling onto my side, I felt a few pressure relief. I’m not overly surprised with this as side sleepers have a tendency to go for softer mattresses that offer cushiony support to the shoulders and hips, typical problem areas for those who sleep in their sides.
Stomach – While the thick memory foam comfort layer is a huge benefit for side sleepers, it is a bit of a mixed bag for stomach sleepers who generally opt for firmer mattresses that keep the spine in an even alignment. HereI could feel my hips sinking out of line with my shoulders, which caused some discomfort in this position.
Next up, let’s take a look at the Puffy’s motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to another.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize another movement you’re likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are really quite interesting motion transfer outcomes. You’ll see a slight spike in first movement across the drops that quickly dissipates, which I would attribute to the thick memory foam comfort layer. This material is great at absorbing and dampening motion, which makes it so you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your partner’s turning and tossing in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress}, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities on the mattress and also quantified how much they compressed the surface.
6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2.5 inches of sinkage.
50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 7 inches of sinkage.
This tells me is that you’re very likely to sink in deeply through the foam layers within this mattress, resulting in a stuck-in-the-bed type feel that will make it somewhat tricky to change positions. Can You Make A Soft Mattress Firmer
The edge support on the Puffy mattress will feel secure and create a solid, edge to edge usable sleep foundation. The compact base foam paired with the supportive memory foam should create a very durable perimeter. Sleeping on this mattress you’re able to feel a consistent feel across the whole surface and not have a “rolling out of the bed” feel. So far as sitting on the edge goes, you will feel some support.
101 Night Sleep Trial and Guarantee
The Puffy mattress includes a 101 night sleep trial period. This trial period allows for more than enough time to try this mattress out. Giving you and your body about three months to adjust to the new and improved feel of your memory foam mattress. It is a good idea to note that you need to make the most of really testing this mattress in this time period. Anytime you buy a brand new mattress your body needs several weeks to even months to completely adjust. If for some reason you reach the end of your trial period and it’s not a good fit, Puffy will work with you to return and refund your purchase.
This mattress comes with a lifetime warranty which goes above and beyond what the typical warranty for the mattress industry is. This warranty indicates that Puffy really backs their product. Covering any abnormal defects or manufacturing mistakes. Minus the typical wear and tear of a mattress. This gives consumers with the assurance that this is a mattress that the company will stand behind.

Puffy Mattress Sleep Temperature?
The Puffy mattress uses cooling technology in every material of this mattress. The upper layer of memory foam is a patent-pending cooling cloud foam that uses convection and conduction to dissipate heat and keep it away from the body. Additionally,a it is infused with gel that increases the airflow 8x more than conventional foam mattresses.
The foundation foam is dense and supportive to make a solid base that won’t let you sink into the mattress and also keep you closer to the surface where less heat will build around the body. The cover is also breathable to help in keeping cool. All this allows for your mattress to maintain an ideal temperature whilst sleeping.
Is The Puffy Mattress Right For You?
First of all, I would say this mattress could make an excellent pick for side sleepers because the thick comfort layer works to alleviate tension at the shoulders and hips.
Also note that the Puffy evokes a classic memory foam feel, so can be good for anybody with a penchant for the material. Can You Make A Soft Mattress Firmer
And lastly, this is one soft mattress, so can do wonders for anybody in search of a gentle, calming mattress.
Though the memory foam is a big selling point of the mattress, it does make things a little uncomfortable for strict stomach sleepers who might find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
It also contributes to a structure that doesn’t have very much bounce, which could be a detractor for those in need of buoyant support.
