Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Can You Flip A Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Can You Flip A Helix Mattress

Construction Can You Flip A Helix Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Can You Flip A Helix Mattress

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these models feel quite right, you can always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Can You Flip A Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Can You Flip A Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
