Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Cameo Collective Helix Jumpsuit

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Cameo Collective Helix Jumpsuit

Construction Cameo Collective Helix Jumpsuit

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Cameo Collective Helix Jumpsuit

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Cameo Collective Helix Jumpsuit

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Cameo Collective Helix Jumpsuit

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
