Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Beds Like Helix

Construction Beds Like Helix
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Beds Like Helix
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these options seem quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Beds Like Helix
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Beds Like Helix
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
