Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Are Helix Mattresses Good

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Are Helix Mattresses Good

Construction Are Helix Mattresses Good

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Are Helix Mattresses Good

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you may always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Are Helix Mattresses Good

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Are Helix Mattresses Good

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
